Until 2010, I had done no painting since I took a watercolour course or two at our local school in the late 1990's. In 2009, I made a New year's resolution that I would settle down and do some painting, but it never materialized. So early this year when I said to my wife that I was going to pick up my paint brushes again, she just laughed! Well, I meant it this time, hence this blog. It's a revival of my inner most desire to paint, in fact, it's my art revival!

I think the feel of the water is good here..
ReplyDeleteI like this. I think my favorite part is the group of people. They add life and a splash of red is always a good idea to draw the eye. Have you seen Prabal's latest water scene? He uses a really effective technique of painting the ripples on with clean water over drying paint. You should have a look :0)
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you think its eluding you Frank. It does feel like a family enjoying time by some quiet water. Sandra's right too, Prabal's ripples are effective. Maybe its what you are searching for?
ReplyDeleteThanks Prabal, Sandra and Pat. I've been looking closely at pictures of water as well as the real thing, and the one thing that I have noticed is how much contrast there can be with lots of really darks as well as light areas. The water here looks too light to me now. I will try again soon.
ReplyDeleteThis is very nice Frank - I like it very much. It is light and airey and has a very relaxed look to it. Before I read your text I had actually thought what a good job you'd done with the water. Prabal's ripples wouldn't work in this situation but I think you're own treatment is much better than you think it is. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Frank. I love the reflections in the water especially. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks John, Crystal, maybe I'm too critical of my own work?
ReplyDeleteThe painting is gorgeous and full of light and I think you did a great job with the water , perfect reflections!
