Retired, but will I have more time for art?

A few weeks ago, I hung up my milk carrier for good!

You would think that retirement is a time for relaxation, a time to take things easy and potter about in the garden etc., but I seem to be busier than ever. What with a huge decorating project (I am talking about re-plastering, plumbing and electrics as well as paintwork), walking, cycling and swimming (I am now up to 20 lengths at a time and counting!), I am beginning to wonder how I ever had time to work for a living!

Earlier in the year, I got bestowed with the task of Exhibition Secretary for our local art club, as well as maintaining the website I built for us last year. This has meant that the last two or three months has got busier building up to our exhibition later this month, especially as I have been updating existing documents, and helping to bring about a new image to our club.

All this has meant that my artwork has been pushed to the back of everything, and I've had precious little time for painting. But the good news is that, hopefully, I will get back to painting fairly soon.

In the meantime, if anyone local is interested, here are details of our forthcoming exhibition:

  1. It's nice to see you posting again Frank. And to answer your question, NO!!! I retired last April and would like to get back to work just for the rest. Not only does retirement bring a never-ending schedule of projects, but you don't get time off at weekends, bank holidays, or for good behaviour. And there's no sick pay, because sickness isn't allowed. LOL.
I'm only kidding ... I've been busy, yes, but it's great being able to do things because you want to do them.
I like your website. As a site builder myself I can't help but notice 'flaws' and I hope you don't mind me mentioning that the Members Profile page has an error with the displayed name of the last member ... it should be Jane, not Carole.
I'm really pleased you've posted about the upcoming exhibition .... I will definitely drop in at some point.

    1. Wow, let me know what day you will be coming and I'll try to be there!
Thanks for your eagle-eye work looking at the website - it's been corrected. (I could do with someone like yourself to proof-read the pages :)

  2. Well congrats on your retirement Frank!! I have heard other people say the same thing, that once they retire they find themselves with no more time than when they were working! But hopefully you will get some time to do it soon. And good job with all the exercise! That's awesome. Also your art club exhibition sounds fab, wish I could jump on a plane and come see it.

    1. Thanks Crystal, the world may be getting smaller these days, but that pond between us is still a pretty big obstacle! I may be able to post a photo of the event on here, though we've ruled out photos of individual paintings.

  3. My husband is desperate to retire Frank, but as there are so many jobs lined up for him to do, I think he has decided to put it off as long as he can! Happy Retirement and as John says it's good to be doing the work for you and not someone else ... only this is, you don't get paid! :)
