Great Bowden Village Boxing Day Meet

Great Bowden Boxing Day Meet
It is a tradition that goes back many years to hold the Fernie Hunt opening Meet on the village green in Great Bowden, Leicestershire. I try to attend this yearly event whenever I can, mainly to see my favourites, which are the hounds. This must be one of the few days in the year that the hounds are treated like pets with all the patting and stroking from the onlookers and especially the children and the animals just seem to lap up all the attention!

I've used acrylic paint on 16x20 inch stretched canvas for this one, which took two months from start to finish. The video below shows how the work came to fruition with each stage of the work.

  1. Frank, you amaze me with your paintings.. So much detail, so much to see .. Everything in proper perspective.
I've watched the video .. and how it came together. .. thanks..

    1. Thanks for your comments Barbra. My paintings don't always sell very well so I must be doing something wrong! It's a good job then that I paint for pleasure more than anything else.

  2. Wow, Frank! This is beautiful! So well done. I especially love your hounds. The one on the left in the foreground, with his haunches so muscular and developed...it reads very well! Nice composition!

And sorry if you were misled by the 'acrylic dreams'...it never occurred to me as I was thinking about the last part! Thanks for your comment!

    1. Thanks Raena. Two of the hounds in the foreground were not in the original photo - I added them from other photos to create a better composition. It can be a bit tricky to get the sizes correct when you do this but it's worth persevering.
